Harvester’s feeds 141,500 people every month with the help of donations and volunteers. Our Kansas City Power & Light District team members wanted to help! We volunteered at Harvester’s in Kansas City on May 24, 2017, sorting and packing canned beans, soup, vegetables, tuna, meals, cake mixes and more.
Because we all have a little competitive streak, we divided into two groups to see which team could package the most! Altogether, we sorted and packaged more than 3,000 non-perishable food items and 3,750 lbs of perishable items, like potatoes.
Harvesters’ is a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Harvesters provides food and related household products to more than 620 not-for-profit agencies including emergency food pantries, community kitchens, homeless shelters, children’s homes and others. They also offer education programs to increase community awareness of hunger and teach about good nutrition. Companies and individuals can volunteer to help with a canned food drive at their business or by sorting and packaging donations at their pantries. For more information, visit www.harvesters.org
