Hispanic Chamber Recognizes Kansas City Power & Light District with El Dorado Corporation of the Year Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 8, 2021) – The Kansas City Power & Light District announced today that it has been named the El Dorado Corporation of the Year by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City. Each year the El Dorado Corporation of the Year Award is presented to the corporation that has demonstrated and implemented initiatives that make a positive difference in the growth of Hispanic business.

The Power & Light District team has continually supported the Hispanic community through mentoring and volunteering with programs like BizFest, where high school entrepreneurs gain economic and workforce literacy through mentorship; the Nuestra Latina Awards, where Latinas are honored in categories such as STEM, Business/Entrepreneurship, Military, and Law Enforcement; and Young Latino Professionals, a program helping young professionals entering the workforce with mentorship and networking.

"We are proud to recognize the Kansas City Power & Light District for their commitment and dedication to the Hispanic Small Business Community and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,” said Carlos Gomez, President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “Since day one The Power & Light District, their leadership and staff have been instrumental in advancing our Mission to Support and Grow Minority Small Business!"

The district has also hosted a number of events including Fiesta Hispana, Ritmo Caliente concert series, En Vivo and a variety of local and national artists including Kansas City's own Making Movies and La Santa Cecilia based out of Los Angeles.

“The Kansas City Power & Light District is thrilled to be among the award recipients at this year’s Noche de Gala Award,” said Liz Serpa-Flook, Logistics and Community Relations Manager for the Power & Light District. “We are constantly looking for ways to show our support for the local community and this award is a great indicator of our work within the Hispanic community.”
