KCPS Sixth Annual Apartment Giveaway
6th Annual Apartment Giveaway Recognizes Outstanding Kansas City Public Schools Teacher
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (December 5, 2024) – The Kansas City Power & Light District is thrilled to announce the winner of its sixth apartment giveaway, awarding a local Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) teacher a complimentary two-year lease at the newly opened, historic Midland Lofts. This initiative, in partnership with KCPS, celebrates the dedication and hard work of educators in our community. Members of the Power & Light District and KCPS leaders surprised Imani Riley-Jones, a World and American history teacher at Northeast High School school, with the exciting news in their classroom.
In Imani Riley-Jones’s submission, she stated, “Winning a two-year lease on an apartment would be life-changing. The financial relief, increased stability and personal growth opportunities it would offer are invaluable. It would enable me to focus on improving myself in all areas of life, from my career to my relationships, while allowing me to establish a strong foundation for the future.”
"Supporting our local educators is a major highlight of our year," said John Moncke, Kansas City Power & Light District president. "The son of a teacher, I have seen firsthand the incredible dedication and passion it takes to inspire students. Our team deeply values the hard work of Kansas City Public Schools educators, and we feel honored to have the opportunity to show our appreciation. We are committed to continuously investing in our community and are proud to partner with Kansas City Public Schools on this initiative."
“We are incredibly grateful for our selfless teachers who dedicate their time, energy and passion to educating and uplifting our students,” said KCPS Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Collier. “This surprise is just one small way we can give back to the extraordinary educators who give so much every day. We are committed to finding meaningful ways to show our gratitude—actions that go beyond words—because our teachers deserve to feel valued and celebrated for the difference they make in our community."
Midland Lofts is the Kansas City Power & Light District’s third historic renovation – including the B&B Theatres and the Midland Theatre – and fourth residential community, infusing new momentum into the ongoing development and growth of downtown Kansas City. Located at the corner of 13th St. and Baltimore Ave. in the Power & Light District, the newly opened 12-story, 135-unit rental property is directly connected to the legendary Midland Theatre and steps away from Kansas City Live!, the KC Streetcar line, dozens of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.
Originally built in 1927, the Midland Building earned a listing on the National Register of Historic Places. This month, Historic Kansas City honored Midland Lofts with the Best Adaptive Re-Use Award. Midland Lofts began welcoming residents earlier this year, becoming a very popular project that is currently 95% leased. Residents can enjoy over 5,000 square feet of first-class amenities such as an entertainment kitchen stocked with coffee from local favorite, Café Corazon, a large fitness center, a club lounge, a meditation room and co-working spaces.
In addition to the two-year apartment lease giveaway, Kansas City Power & Light District announced special pricing incentives on One Light, Two Light, Three Light and Midland Lofts apartment leases for qualified employees this year at a Teacher Appreciation Happy Hour held for Kansas City Public Schools.
