816 Day is back at KC Live! with food, live music, family-friendly fun

The Kansas City Power & Light District is bringing back its “816 Day” this weekend, giving locals the opportunity to celebrate the city while helping students across the Kansas City Public School (KCPS) system prepare for the upcoming school year.

Starting on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., this free, all-age, charitable event will feature food, music, art, and a number of family-friendly activities.

Attendees will be able to take part in a brunch party alongside a live DJ, watch a dance battle, and enjoy delicious food and drink deals from a number of local vendors.

According to KC Live!, some of the deals include:

Shark Bar: Half-off everything
McFadden’s: $8.16 hot dog and fries + a 16-oz. Homerun Club mug of domestic beer
Guy’s Dive: $8.16 Una Vida margarita with chips and salsa
Living Room: $8.16 Tom’s Town cocktails & 32-oz. Miller or Coors
No Other Pub: $8.16 giant pretzel + 32-oz. Coors Light

The best thing about 816 Day, though, is that the event serves the community in a bigger way than most would expect.

This year, every participating food truck at the event will be donating its vendor fees to KCPS. And once the totals are in, the Power & Light District will match the total raised.

Additionally, 250 backpacks with school supplies will be donated by generous organizations, like The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and The 816 Day Committee.
