Kansas City businesses and Power & Light ready for Chiefs Monday Night Football

Bar and restaurant owners in the Kansas City area are prepping for a busy Monday night. The Chiefs take on the Jags in a Monday Night Football showdown.

A big watch party is set for Monday in what’s known as “the Living Room of Kansas City,” the Kansas City Power and Light District, should be quite the scene downtown.

Doors opened in the KC Live! Block at 5 p.m. on Monday for the Chiefs Watch Party. They’re expecting hundreds of people.

Businesses owners said they’re looking forward to the crowd that Chiefs games typically bring in.

“Now it’s like a machine, right, we just know what we do,” Anna Lindt said.

She’s a managing partner with Johnny’s Tavern at Power and Light District.

After a busy weekend in Kansas City, she said they’re used to running a “hurry-up offense” — prepping for the next event.

Lindt is expecting a large crowd of Chiefs fans to take over tables Monday night to watch the game.

“We always anticipate every table’s full, the bar is full,” Lindt said.

Lindt said they’ll staff two extra bartenders and seven more servers.

Johnny’s also has 75 TVs.

She said they also keep the energy up with hype music before and during the game — scoring business.

“It’s so much fun, it’s great that it’s a Monday,” Lindt said. “We get weekend business naturally with all the other sporting events and events downtown, but to be able to also have it on a Monday is great.”

To catch the game on the big screen in the KC Live! Block it’ll cost you, they’re charging $20 Monday night for cover.

There will also be a DJ playing.

A spokesperson with P&L said they expect to see a few hundred fans.

“It’s a big difference from the chiefs are playing, and not playing,” Tim Caniglia said.

Caniglia owns The Granfalloon on the Plaza.

This bar and restaurant seats about 300, he expects to be full Monday night.

They’ll match that with a full staff, on the floor, behind the bar and in the kitchen.

“It’s just going to be a fun night, it’s going to be a lot busier than normal and hopefully the chiefs win,” Caniglia said.

As the Chiefs take care of business on the field in Florida, Caniglia said at The Granfalloon, it’s business as usual with much welcome foot traffic.

“We do what we do every game, we just open up and hopefully they all show up,” Caniglia said, “and usually for away games we fill up, completely fill up. Home games we do too, but the away games help us out quite a bit.”

The Chiefs game is at 7:15 p.m. on ESPN.
